Canadian Mental Health Association and Its Services
from:The Canadian Mental Health Association or the CMHA is a voluntary health organization that is touted as one of the oldest in existence still operating in Canada. Previously called the Canadian National Committee for Mental Hygiene, the Canadian Mental Health Association began its charity work targeted at mental patients in 1918. The objectives of the Canadian Mental Health Association included the dissemination of information on the prevention of the spread of mental illness as well as a general focus on mental wellbeing among the populace.
The Canadian Mental Health Association stressed the increasing need for mental health awareness in the country and is one of the organizations that speak freely about the issues that revolve around mental health and the solutions to the mental problems that plague Canadians. The primary objectives of the Canadian Mental Health Association when it was first founded included psychiatric assessment of people who were being recruited by the military as well as help for soldiers returning from the war with mental disabilities. They also placed an emphasis on giving citizens of the country adequate facilities for addressing mental health issues and programs for the prevention of these possible problems.
Today, the Canadian Mental Health Association continues to help the people of Canada deal with the different mental health issues that they encounter. They collaborate with other organizations to help with the research and the development of viable cures for certain mental illnesses. The Canadian Mental Health Association also sponsors programs and projects that cause people take note of the different kinds of mental health problems they may be facing and give them information on how to battle them. Aside from the information drives that the Canadian Mental Health Association puts forth to help inform the public of the ways they can detect possible mental health problems in themselves and in loved ones as well as how they can try and solve such issues on their own, they also offer professional help for the more pressing mental issues in the different offices in the different regions of Canada.
The Canadian Mental Health Association gives out the help they provide by getting help themselves. This association, being a charitable institution, is funded by a lot of donations and support from individuals, foundations and corporations who strongly believe in the CMHA's objectives and drive to keep Canadians mentally healthy and to provide proper mental health care to those who need it. The Canadian Mental Health Association also receives funding for some of their projects and for some of the services that they offer the public from the government.
