What the National Institute of Mental Health Does For You

from:

The National Institute of Mental Health is a government organization that basically deals with anything that pertains to the mental health of the people of the United States. This means that the National Institute of Mental Health or the NIMH funds research into certain mental conditions that may plague citizens of the US, trains researchers for the study of such mental conditions and even funds mental health research being conducted by different universities and private institutions in the country.

What the National Institute of Mental Health does for the people of the US is actually to find ways to understand the causes and effects of certain mental conditions that plague some of the populace. They also try to find ways to understand what makes these mental problems more prone to happening to certain minorities and what can be done to avoid them or to minimize the effects that they generate. Solutions and cures for such mental health issues is another important goal that the National Institute of Mental Health works on. The findings and conclusions that they get from the numerous research studies they conduct along with the studies conducted by those people they fund and coordinate with are often published in certain medical guides to help the people in the mental health industry further help the people afflicted by such mental problems.

The research that the National Institute of Mental Health conducts includes studies as well as clinical trials. Studies often go into the different possible avenues of mental wellbeing, like the behavioral and even cellular levels of the human brain. Clinical investigations often deal with the cures and possible preventive measures that can be used on the different mental health issues that researchers uncover.

The National Institute of Mental Health is based in Maryland and is under the umbrella of the National Institutes of Health which in turn is under the jurisdiction of the US Department of Health and Human Services. This institute was founded in 1949 and has sponsored a huge number of research grants and instigated quite a number of important research programs with the goal of helping the people who are suffering from certain mental health conditions in the US and worldwide. There are a few major divisions that handle the different areas of mental health and these different divisions focus on gathering information on treatments, prevention, genetic disposition and other such factors.

All of the activities of the National Institute of Mental Health are in line with keeping the nation mentally healthy and sound as well as providing the people in the mental health industry with the necessary tools to help achieve this goal.
